Gen 1 has the best Pokémon designs.
Gen 2 is the overall best generation. There is nothing wrong with the Pokémon distribution and you have no right to criticize Johto for being a small region when Kanto was the only standard it had to live up to at the time.
Gen 3 has the best region design. Hoenn is a great region to explore and the water routes are fine.
Gen 4 is the most par generation. It neither excels nor disappoints in any particular way.
Black and White are some of the worst games, while Black 2 and White 2 are some of the best.
X and Y are disappointing games, but if you think they're worse than Sun and Moon then you're delusional and don't understand Pokémon very well.
Gen 7 is disgustingly bad and a letdown in nearly every possible way. There is nothing positive to be said about it except for a few small quality of life additions.
