Grew up with gen1 and 2, loved them, was neutral to liking on r/s, loved emerald, then tried D/P. Found it so boring and sloggish that it completely erased my interest in Pokemon entirely for several years, until gen5 revived it and became my favorite by far. Tried Platinum later and found that good enough to be a redemption, and HG/SS are tied with B2W2 for my favorite mainline games, but D/P are still my least favorite mainline games. Yes even after gen6 and 7. Good thing Platinum exists so I have no reason to ever deal with them again

Good region and the best set of starters in the series, but otherwise the dex is pretty weak and DP are painful to play through. Phys/Special split was great though and should've been in the games to begin with.

Great games, great remakes, best pokemon raster added, special / physical split was the best improvement the game ever had. Too bad the games felt slow at times but def my fav region

I enjoyed it very much, it and Gen 5 were my favorite gens. I realize that it's probably because my adolescent years were spent on them, but I also like Gens 2 and 3 for the music and comfiness , and Gen 6 and 7 for the ease of online play.

I liked it a lot. So much so I missed out on Gen 5 for its first year because I still had a lot to do in both Platinum and HGSS. I know its slowness was a detriment but I didn't mind the speed because I don't care if RPGs are fast. If I wanted fast I'd play an action game or platformer.

They were great pokemon games but holy shit they were the absolute worst gameplay wise. I never played platinum cause I was so annoyed with diamond but I wish I had. I hear it's probably the most improved of the third versions

Battle Frontier
Game Corner
??? Type
Poison doing damage outside battle
Set Elite 4 order
Needing Gym Badges to use certain HMs
No Team Preview
Introduce a new HM move
A good amount of spin-off games
A third version (BW2 are sequels, nothing for XY, and USUM are alternate fourth versions)

Mediocre.
Other than the physical special split it brought multiple downgrades to things gen 3 brought like bases, the BF, trainer rematches and contests.
