It wasn't designed for full Rental teams.
Train up a team in GSC and it's easy, until Round 2 that is, but you can cheese most content with Mewtwo/Lugia anyway if you're bad.

As horseshit as Stadium 1 Round 2 was, it was still possible to complete the gym leader castle with only Rentals

It's possible, but you need very specific setups for a lot of fights, and often luck.
It's hard as shit with rentals.

The issue is that the rentals in Stadium 1 had reasonable movesets, and their stats were pretty good as well. Stadium 2 gives the rentals shit for IVs, on top of giving the fully evolved Pokemon nothing but bad moves. Unevolved rentals have some strong attacks, but this requires you to use unevolved Pokemon with shit stats.

OP here. I'm actually using my own team. It's still pretty tough, i'm surprised as I only played the main games. The AI will switch out and you can't switch between them sending out pokemon and their movesets are way better than in the g/s/c. Holy shit.

Planning to do a series of no commentary videos in the future. Not going to link my YT because not allowed to advertise but it's something I've always wanted to do with Stadium 1 and 2, especially since there are ways to record N64 footage in HD.
