Exactly how I feel. A lot of people hate on gen 6 here, but I remember being blown away and loving the first pokemon game with 3D models and the ability to interact directly with your team. Gen 7 was a let down, but here's to hoping 2019 game will make me feel like gen 6 did when it came out.

For years Japfreak complained the 3DS hardware was limiting development, the switch will allow them more freedom. I am optimistic this game will show us the true potential Gamefreak has, to make a good Pokemon game.

Same here. Loved 5 and 6, was really let down by 7, and I didn't buy LGPE and just replayed FRLG on my 3DS instead. I hope the new region on the Switch is larger and more expansive with more room for exploration. It doesn't have to be open world or anything but some optional areas and less NPC babysitting would be nice.

What do you mean by "hate modern pokemon", though? Because most of the time, people hate on specifics parts of the game rather than everything, like certain designs, battle mechanics, story, animations, lack of post-game content, etc.
You also need to remember that the franchise is most known for the monster and human designs, with the games themselves being the medium with which they promote them and the anime, but it isn't worth mentioning in this instance. The games are important, yes, but Pokemon is the biggest media franchise, not a mere videogame.

I hated Gen 6 so much that I completely skipped 7 and LGPE.

Still I like Pokemon at heart so I'm hoping Gamefreak has actually stepped up their game and will show something worthwhile. If not I'll just go back to playing Emerald for the 11th time.

Every game after BW2 has been garbage but some part of me still believes that the 3DS was to blame, I know things wont be different but I wish they were because I enjoy a lot about the series and part of me hopes maybe Game Freak will finally address the criticism of the last three gens in the next one.

The whole thing is a meme then, just having something new doesn't mean good. As for vibrant, it's pretty much nulled when the region itself was more like a tourist trip. Granted, it happens in Gen 6 as well but Gen 7 did that much worse. Not to mention game mechanics that Gen 7 somehow reverted to that ended up being worse anyway.
