>>37685101Until recently, fire types have been rare, so in the early gens, they tended to be my favorite, since I like balanced teams with no repeats, and water or grass types were easy to get.
Since Gen 5, there have been pretty good alternatives early on for everything, so the best type has kind of drifted a bit, and it typically comes down to the secondary typings which are all over the place.
I personally have a soft spot for Sceptile, Torterra, and Chesnaught, even though they are objectively terrible compared to at least one of their contemporaries.
Gen 1: All are great, but Charizard is the hardest to replace.
Gen 2: Feraligatr is awesome, especially with Ice Punch, Crunch, and Surf. Typhlosion is pretty strong as well, Meganium is unfortunately a support mon in an area before support had any meaningful contributions to make.
Gen 3: All three are fantastic. Blaziken is hard to replace, and so is Swampert. Sceptile gets screwed over by the Phys/Spec. split, and the fact that there are some great early grass types in Shroomish, Roselia, and Ludicolo in Sapphire.
Gen 4: Infernape is leaps and bounds ahead. Empoleon is nice for Defog, and Tortera is a good tank, if a bit underwhelming in offence.
Gen 5: I benched them all. I don't care for a single one and they are more than replaceable.
Gen 6: Greninja is god tier, Chespin is a little underwhelming, and Delphox is garbage.
Gen 7: They're all kinda fourth place finishers. Better than average, but nothing great.
