I checked all the Game Freak staff's twitter accounts over the past 2 years to see if I could find any clear evidence of them travelling for investigative/research purposes and found nothing. Either they were very particular about hiding it this time around, or the new region simply isn't a copy of an Earth-location and will be somewhere completely new.

Masuda has been all over the place many times over and travels constantly. I don't know if all of the staff were in the UK at any point, but I'd rule out any visits done before the release of SM (So about 2 years). We know that the game has not been worked on for longer than SM's release (gameinformer interview) and I can't see it making a lot of sense that they'd investigate a region for a game they weren't even developing at the time.

It might be the UK, but I personally wouldn't use that fact as the basis for my speculation.

But it doesn't, at all. The only similarities are that it's two landmasses (possibly not even islands, could just be a section of a larger area) with one being long and the other being competitively small and rounded. But the islands themselves are shaped nothing like Britain or Ireland (while every other region has been incredibly accurate to it's basis in shape) and the scale is also massively off with "Ireland" being far too small compared to "Britain".

Dude can they not just do like one version's region be Italy, another Britain, call it Dusk and Dawn and call it a day? It's crazy how much of a tug of war its been. What's funny is we definitely don't have any credible leaks yet- and in case it's SM teaser 2.0 (I don't think it is but we don't know what all is covered in those 7 minutes) we'll be still debating which region it is like before lol.

Also, I don't mind it being either, there was a LOT left untouched from Kalos (big fucking surprise right?) that a British or an Italy region could dive into. Like I love Roserade and Mr. Mime but think it be dope if we got like a Harlequin line of Pokemon based on the Carnival of Venice and stuff like that. Heck with Britain could do a elemental trio of crypto cats or heraldic animals or something for the minor legends.
