We don't even have hacks for the DS, let alone the 3DS. Also, for gen 7 in particular, the game seems to freeze whenever you try and edit anything in the overworld. Would be nice if somebody ever figured out WHY.

the NDS games still use sprites. It's easier to build something from re-used sprite assets than do it with CG assets.

Main reason for that is because 3D is hell to develop for. Making a rom hack of a 2D game is hard enough for most people.
