Kalos = Sinnoh > Alola > Kanto > Hoenn = Unova >>>>> Johto
Kalos and sinnoh are the best renditions of what pokemon is generally about (great battles, great writing, great quaity), alola is an unique, different, but really rewarding take on the series, the last episodes have been FANTASTIC, kanto had a lot more freedom and creativity as to what the series was going to be about, hoenn and unova are basic, tired and formulaic, they try some stuff but are ultimately mediocre, but holy shit johto.
johto is where the writers just didnt have a plan, endless filler for endless stream of episodes, brock and misty are zombies, some cool stuff DOES happen (like the pidgey episode) but its like 1 gem every 20 episodes of mediocrity with no development in sight, thats pretty much my insight on the whole series
