Pokemon started out with more ambitious world design than Zelda did. It's just that Zelda evolved and Pokemon never did. In fact, it regressed. Fucking Red and Blue captured the feeling of exploring the untamed wilderness better than all the modern Pokemon games.

It's pretty much the same engine as sun and moon, but there is still hope.

-Camera controls
-National deck avaliable post-game
-Regional dex should have atleast 300 pokemon
-Gyms return, this is a good thing
-Include hard mode and easy mode just like Gen V
-Make the average towns and cities as big as castelia and lumiose
-Include MANY sidequests along the first playthrough so that cities and towns have a reason to explore instead of just being hubs for the gym and pokecenter
-Give more life to the pokemon models for christs sake
-Put tropius and xatu back on the ground, they look retarded

Zelda has an excuse for all the structured land and removal of shadows and textures in the background, because you can actually go to the background and interact with everything. Pokemon has none of that, it's just outdoor hallways.

I'm surprised by how many on /vp/ are ok with the graphics. The game looks like it's an upscale from one of the 3DS games, especially if you look at terrain texture, shadowing and background detail which are all horrendous for a modern stationary console. The Switch can do a LOT better than what is shown in the trailer. It doesn't have anything to do with the game's "artstyle", Game Freak just cuts a thousand corners when it comes to graphics and performance.

One of the essential elements of the first 4 gens of the series was the idea of exploration. Even gen 5 had side stuff, even if the world was a donut. Then the 3DS era came along and it's been like playing through a railroaded series of gimmicks. It's at the point where you're either into it for the battle system or you're just not into it period, because playing the game is one long slog of setpieces. It's become another one of those godforsaken annual franchises like CoD where there's a new one every year and it's barely different from the last one.

People already did crude drawings of what the routes might look like, it's not a straight line. Also, the amount of gyms in the map also hints that they might be hiding something

S&S what pokemon game is that supposed to be?
Plus the assets are the same ones on the 3ds
Also it is the SM build of the XY engine
A build is a newer version of a engine
I learned from modifying the games built on the source engine
So explain why you think it is on a development fork of what ever S&S engine is.
Fun fact black mesa is a Franken engine of Team fortress 2 engine and the portal 2 engine (portal is in game universe as half-life) but the developers produced this on the source engine build 2015.
Pokemon engines seem to work similarly in comparison.

BOTW is a huge open world game.

Pokemon was SUPPOSED to be known for adventuring, exploring, and finding monsters all over the world, but they couldn't do that because of the obvious technical limitations of the systems at the time. Now that Breath of the Wild showed that the Switch is capable of that, it would be the perfect moment to create what Pokemon was supposed to be since the beginning, but clearly GameFreak doesn't remember what Pokemon was meant to be. It looks like it's still the same basic overworld design of pokemon, only now it's got more height and depth. You're still limited to small roads and specific routes, so i can't imagine it changes the gameplay much, only that it makes it more aesthetically pleasing.

It was a good game, but it definitely didn't feel like a traditional Zelda game. After all these years though I don't mind, there's a balance between re-using the same formula and deviating too much from what people loved in the first place. Zelda has consistently hit it near the mark with how they should grow and update their series, each one a somewhat different genre but not too different, maintaining old elements. I like the kind of game BOTW is and I feel it does feel like it exists in the same world, and it does expand on the characters we already love.
Im not saying theyre the best games or anything, it's just one thing about the series I deeply appreciate. Probably one of the franchises that has evolved and grown the best.
Pokemon, while another series I really love for different reasons, is AWFUL at growing or changing in an appealing way - this trailer has actually made me hopeful though, the game looks like they're trying.
