Why are barn owls, hedgehogs, snakes, tortoises, geckos, dinosaurs, and frogs grass?

Why are tigers, Fennec foxes, pigs, monkeys, porcupines, chickens, and lizads fire?

We don't need an actual justification for starter types and the animal they are based on. This just happens to be the first Water-type starter whose species of origin is not water-related.
