I love that the new starter Pokemon look more like older generation Pokemon while sun and moon were more edgy and cartoon

I agree! I was a little put off by Grookey’s poroportions at first, but it really has that chubby smooth look and I’m down for it it.

Well, I agree with you that the starters this time around have more conventional old school Pokemon designs than anything from Gen 7. Especially the Grass and Water starters. Fire one is a hybrid between old and new designs, but still more old school than Litten or Popplio. Part of what turned me off from the starters at first in that gen is how different their designs were.

You're probably thinking of the way gen I & II pokemon are depicted today as opposed to when they first came out, because these starters (along with all the others for the past decade) look like boring disney bullshit.
