I think there's going to be a singular wolf pokemon that's a big part of the Galar region's royal family and/or champion. It's lived with the family/champ for hundreds of years initially acting as the loyal partner pokemon for the family/champ's ancestor. It eventually turned into a fairly standard guard dog/protector for the family/champ, but due to it's status it's incorporated into the family/champ's royal crest (either the sword or the shield). Eventually your MC and the evil team rolls around. Evil team wants the doggo to awaken it's former potential back in the ye olde days and, eventually, manage to capture it.
Incapable of naturally enabling the Wolf-pokemon to return to it's former glory, they force it to do so and it goes beserk. You then have to fight the Berserk Blade/Shield-wolf (Think of it like a halfway between a Mega Evolution and a form change, I guess?). You can't capture it in it's current state like Kyurem in B/W2, so you just beat it unconcious and it reverts back. You then foil the baddie's plans once and for all and the wolf is returned safely to the family/champ. After defeating the champ, the wolf-pokemon is revealed to have recovered from it's injuries and wishes to join you. From there on, you can either use the wolf as is with basically psuedo-legendary stats, or use your bond with it to turn it into the Blade-Wolf or Shield-Wolf again, depending on your version, except now it's totally in control of itself and is ready to kick ass.
