I thought the same thing about SM and LGPE, but it turned out what we saw in the trailers was pretty much the finished product, and people will lap it up just because of the logo on it while /vp/ will continue to praise it just because it brought back some shitty mechanics from the last gen that weren't in LGPE.

Yes. The games have turned into low effort cash grabs. Competetive ins't even fun anymore because it's the same team of tapus, landorus, and magearna on every team these days. The only thing I'm interested in is the pokemon themselves. Gen 7 had a lot of neat designs.

What depresses me the most is the fact that I don't actually care anymore about the aspects of Pokemon which make it a game.
There are countless RPGs which are doing a better job at being a game.

Honestly if I was like anyone else on this board who are just complaining right off the bat, I would be depressed too. What they want is something that is devoid of flaws, but most games have flaws in general. When they were younger they couldn't see the flaws and just focused on the adventure and how fun it was. Now instead of seeing a new pokemon game and getting excited like that, they immediately jump on board and start nitpicking. Things aren't to your standards anymore. It's frustrating. I understand, I've been through it too. But people just have to let it go and have a bit of fun every once in a while.

Why do you think anyone wanted a flawless game? We just wanted something actually new. I personally wanted a world that felt alive and every scene in that trailer was just the PC running around an empty area devoid of any activity, for fucks' sake they removed followers again for the second time even though it was fully implemented in LGPE, with the animations for the entire national dex available since at least USUM.

I'm tired of making excuses for a shit job, now I have to wait for years again and will probably get fucked with the next generation too. I really hope this franchise dies.

To be fair, this game is still in development. We only managed to see one npc and very minimal instances of new areas for us to explore. Only time will tell if it becomes better in that regard, but I have no doubt that these places will look more lively in later trailers and images. Also, not to be that guy, but maybe there will be a toggle option for following pokemon. I too am upset that they seemingly have decided to stop using such a nice mechanic. But you have to think about the positives of the game for once. Thinking about only the negative things will have a bad impact on your mentality.

I sure hope so with pretty much all of those points, but I made the same exact excuses for SM, USUM and LGPE and got fucked every time. I've been a pokemon fan for over 10 years by this point. I'm assuming others have been like that for longer. I still love pokemon, even if it's changed and I don't like those changes. But there isn't anything I can do, and neither can anyone else. This board is just an echo chamber of negativity and people outside of it actually enjoy playing these games. You can shit on them all you want, but you're the one who ends up being sad, not those people. They're the majority, and at the very least, if you want to do something, you and your beliefs have to become the majority to change anything. But for me personally, I don't want to waste my life spending time being bitter about problems in a video game series that I enjoy playing. I'd rather try to learn something new from it and enjoy myself in the process.

If you truly want things to change then you have to do something outside of sulk on an anonymous image board. Send letters, become a social media influencer and talk to your followers, go to other forums and spread the word. my voice alone won't ever change the tide of pokemon's fate, and I doubt I would garner a following large enough or with enough strength to get gamefreak's attention, I don't think anything would actually. They're content to just milk pokemon for all its worth until it is but a corpse, and no skin off their back after the fact since they'd have made more than enough money to abandon the series. Pokemon itself is a lost cause because of this fact.

It's people like you that still buy these games at retail prices and defend this shitty excuse for a company after 15 years of mediocre precedent that keep this series mediocre. What reason does Game Freak have to improve when they know you'll always stick by them as long as they can get you a cheap high?

Venting frustration and genuinely trying to make a difference are two very, very different things. Just as you know you won't change my mind, I know I won't change yours, and that's fine. These games are garbage and I've accepted that, all I can hope for now is a good spinoff or just to finally get so bored of it all that I stop caring about Pokémon entirely.
