Some of the fun of XY and USUM was getting to use things you might not have picked up in previous gens.
I never used a Sudowoodo, Munchlax, or Magneton until USUM. XY gave me a chance to use Doduo, Kecklon, and Axew.
If they give us some mons we haven't seen early before and may not have built teams around in the past, it can make the region feel different and fresh, even if we aren't see that many truly "new" faces.
Bloat and trash for the sake of novelty is just going to bite the franchise in the ass. Clearing 1,000 pokes when you can only use 6 at a time really is a waste. How many will drift off into the realm of mediocrity only to be forgotten?
