What are your first impressions on Pokémon Sword/Shield? My thoughts are pretty positive for the most part. It's nice to have Gen 8 be properly revealed after teasing us with it since 2017. We also got a UK-inspired region in the form of the Galar Region. The starters are ok, not great looking, but just ok. The graphics look nice and are comfy in some spots. The negatives I will mention are the lack of overworld encounters and following Pokémon which is one of the things LGPE got right. You can make the argument that random encounters bring out an element of surprise, but I felt overworld encounters make the world feel more alive imo and I can see why some fans felt disappointed. The Galar Region has a linear look like Unova, but hey, maybe it might have optional areas to explore like said region. Because we only know the starters and what the region looks like, I suggest we should just wait until we get more information about the games.
