I just really hope that a lot of the little stuff gets touched up like the backgrounds and textures, they're a little blurry. They've still got a solid amount of time to fix up the game.

I've been waiting for a HD Pokemon game on consoles that reminded me of the anime since I was a kid. After growing up, I realized I also wanted another game like the Colosseum titles. This game is both of those. The routes, towns, and cities look huge in the trailer, and only sign of invisible walls were by the giant Nazca line type thing. I'm all for these new titles and I am cautiously optimistic for the new Pokemon. As of now, I am completely satisfied.

If the game had a little bit of bloom to hide the jagged backgrounds, it'd look pretty nice. In general if they just touched up the lighting, it'd look great; right now it's just ok.

I think many people when they say that they want a BOTW tier game just want an ambitious game, not necessarily one with similar gameplay. BOTW was for sure quite flawed but the ambition was undeniable and for the most part I'd say they managed to deliver. From the little we've seen of Shield and Sword they don't look like ambitious titles at all. It could change as further information is unveiled, but I have no reason to believe it would.

The crisp lines on the models really clash with the blurry low res ones on the textures. They really need to clean those textures up. The background looks like ass too, but hopefully it wont be noticable in motion. Other than that, it looks slightly better than I expected. Still well below average, but this is gamefreak, so I guess I just have to understandu prease.

People are already making statements about how good the games will be, but frankly there's just no way of knowing yet. It's going to be an interesting 9 months.

This so much. I was dreading what they could do in a misguided attempt to "revolutionize" the franchise, but it seems they're sticking to how the core series works.
I also like the character models and the region itself, looks very pleasant and it's a nice change of pace after the super lush and tropical Gen 7.
The background textures look bad but I've never been one to care too much about that, and I'll probably play in handheld mode most of the time anyway so it won't look as bad as on tv.

I wish they kept the overworld Pokemon though.
Random encounters are fine, but knowing what you want to battle when you see it was pretty nice. Also it made the world in LGPE feel more alive.

This is my opinion as well. Character models are basically what they were in LGPE. Pokémon models have been the same for five years.

It looks better than LGPE, but then again, LGPE looked like ass. I'm sure this game will look worse outside the trailer too.

You can also interpret less literally as a "change of direction of the old formula" and that's what they did with the Ocarina/Twilight formula. In the case of Pokemon we are stuck with the RSE formula for a while.
I'm not asking for full fledged open world, I'm just asking for it not being a guided tour anymore.

You know what would've gotten me excited? A Scandinavian setting instead of the UK. Nothing against UK folk, but huge, craggy mountains, deep fjords would've made better exploration than plains and cities, imo.

Maybe even a South American setting with deep jungles and some Mayan or Aztec analogue ruins.
