Character customization has been a feature for how long now? No way they would remove slightly customizable outfit and skintone slider. Pokemon aims to sell to everyone after all.

LGPE also had you playing as characters specifically pointed out as being different people as you get to battle Red, Green and Blue in the game. That said I do think ORAS still should have had customization because of the fact being an alternate universe is a plot point and the option to get the RSE outfits and mix them with the new ones would have been pretty sweet.
