Yes, movie merch with a Mewtwo getting a new look that makes him fancier and more powerful connecting to the new mechanic the games are introducing in the future. Literally the same they did with Megaevolution in gen 5's last movie (Genesect vs Mewtwo)

the difference is that digimon's armor evolutions are an actual evolution mechanic, just like this new pokemon gimmick is going to be.
armored mewtwo wasn't an evolution, it was literally just regular mewtwo in a suit that giovanni built for it. it never even appeared in a game, it was movie-only.

Armor Mewtwo was nothing more than some sequence of the movie to show how Mewtwo was controlled.

Armor Digievolution was to give Digimon new evos with armor-like elements.

What the new Mewtwo movie could be doing is taking their original Armor Mewtwo idea and giving it an Armor Digievolution spin to it. Yes armored monster they did first but point is they could be taking it from something that did it better.
