The main problem is that it does mean they have to hit many similar marks with the new mons to fulfill basic niches. Like you need a zubat clone (woobat) to find in every cave. This is kinda the reason why people misunderstand Gen V and see it as retreading a lot of ground. It kind of had to because of that total clean slate.

They probably just wanted a healer type mega and gave it to Audino over Blissey so that Gen 5 could have at least one Mega. Gen 5 didn't get megas because it was the latest Gen.
