Some "leak" that had the names Sword and Shield also mentioned armored evolutions. Plus, there's some merch for the new movie that's labelled "Armored Mewtwo". Plus the names themselves bring to mind armor, and the tagline "forge a path to greatness".
It's probably nothing, but that's where it comes from.
