Aren't shields technically redundant considering armor? I know in earlier ages they were more vital because the armor wasn't so good.
Due to air resistance shields have a hard time out-maneuvering their sword counterparts. To be like this anon here

Where as for sword you have a pin point that is much smaller than its target area. Meaning higher accuracy and more agility due to less resistances, plus the critical pressure applied on the tip of the blade means you have potential critical stabs to vital organs, or at the very least a very wounding blunt blow on chain mail which would still fucking hurt.
