The SM anime looks really bright and cartoony and Kahili stood out in the game by not being that way (or being around as much at all, comparatively speaking). The anime has always handled some characters differently, but I definitely think in Kahili's case that they didn't know how to handle her otherwise. Even fans default to thinking she's a bitch because of her face, even though she doesn't act like one.
