>>37779251Prototype GS didn't have a region, but a country, modeled after Japan. Each "city" essentially was meant to represent that region, like there being a city for Kanto that was a significantly scaled down version. Each locale's name was also a play on the prefecture/city it was based on.
Silent Hill = Shizuoka
Birdon = Tottori
Old = Nagoya
Newtype = Niigata
Prince = Fuji
Sugar = Sadou (play on Satou)
Stand = Sendai
Blue Forest = Aomori
South = Kyushu
North = Hokkaido
West = Kansai/Kinki
If Kanto wasn't called Kanto, it would be called East
Each location had a "Gym", but going by the scale of the story, it might be more accurate to call them Leagues, as Red/Satoshi is the Leader of Kanto. Presumably, the goal would be to become National Champion instead of a regional one. Game Freak basically restarted development after Spaceworld 97, brought on Masuda, salvaged what they could of existing designs and ideas, and 2 years later, Gold and Silver as we know them came out.
I'm not gonna go and say the original plans for the game were better than what we got. It would be cool to play a completed version of that, but what we ultimately received was really good.
