Unironicly yes old was good new are bad but it's not because they are new I actually quite like the gen 6 starters but 5 and seven are terrible and 8 is yet to be seen but just of the first forms I like the fire and grass and i think the water could have a cool final form

Do you think 9 out of 10 people rate them at or near the bottom because of their battle performance? They're mediocre at best from a design perspective. Design, typing, stats, movepools, it's all awful.

Wouldn’t be that crazy to me. Personally speaking, the Snivy line is one of my favorites in terms of design, but also the only starter that I’ve ever boxed mid-game. Serperior is one of the most single disappointing Pokémon to me, because it’s such a waste of an absolutely great design.

As for the others, Tepig/Pignite and Oshawott/Dewott are really good designs, it’s the final forms where they fall short. That’s the main reason why they don’t get much respect.

Starters are the only thing that gen 1 did right, but Sceptile, Blaziken, Swampert are just superior to Blastoise, Venusaur, Charizard. Gen 3 would stand more of a chance to be the best region for starters if it didn't have fucking Combusken and Marshtomp.

I don't know how to rank 8, honestly. I think both Sobble and Grookey fit the starter aesthetic perfectly, but Scorbunny, even though he's cute, doesn't really fit at all. His body proportions are way too different and he's way taller than the others, which separates him even more. There's just something about him that's not really Pokemon like, and I hardly ever say that.
