So what's the consensus? Does /vp/ think Detective Pikachu looks good? Sure, the plot is generic and the actors aren't great, but what really matters are the designs. They're gonna reuse them for all the future PCU movies I imagine.

but for real the mons look pretty good, Snorlax is prob my favorite looking one and I do find it bold of them to have it be a bit more mature in tone compared to what we usually get in the west like half assed fighting is bad messages like in the first movie.

Most of the designs are good, but some are a little too realistic for me (mainly Charizard and Greninja to a lesser extent). I think they did a good job with Mewtwo, he lacks the penis tail and is way less sexy (and that's a good thing!)

Aside from a small number of weird design choices (looking at you, Aipom), the realistic designs actually look pretty great, and with so many little details and easter eggs in the background it's hard not to feel like at least a significant portion of the production crew is comprised of actual fans. All the details are there. Just the fact they didn't just pander to genwunners and have pokemon from throughout the series is already way better than I was ever expecting. I'm actually pretty hype. I'm sure the plot/writing won't be anything too special, but I wanna watch it just to see this pokemon world they created.

Like, on paper this entire movie sounds like a fucking disaster, but somehow they actually managed to pull it off. I still don't understand. For some reason I keep somehow pushing it away in my mind, but then I go watch a movie and the trailer plays before it on the big screen and it hits me like "holy shit this is actually a thing that's happening and it actually looks kinda good".

Not the biggest fan of the Pokemon designs (way too much fur, including on shit like Jigglypuff that aren't supposed to be furry) but I like the idea behind it, and the trailer I've seen is charming.

It's looking unexpectedly good. And it seems to be getting both fans and non-fans attention, so it might actually be a success. Even my GF, who couldn't care less about Pokémon, is pretty hyped about it.
I don't expect an excellent movie, but it'll probably be fun. And seeing a different and innovative take on the Pokémon world on the cinema will certainly be awesome.

Oh, and i legit laughed at Ludicolo's cry, caught me completely off guard.
