Lots of gen 1 Pokemon were great, I still prefer newer gens but I don't have a hate boner for Kanto. And yes gen 1 and 4 starters are the best, all good even if other gens have better standouts to me

This is true. Pokemon was lightning in a bottle and they've moved away from what sells to 8 year old boys in favor of what appeals to stunted "adults". What they seem to fail to realize is that these adults WILL eventually age out of buying the merchandise and they have not cultivated a younger group who will be buying their products through their twenties. I think we will see the bottom fall out on Pokemon in the next five to ten years.

gen 4 had the best trio by far. genwun starters are pure garbage except for wartortle and blastoise, who barely rise to the level of mediocrity.

Charmander and Charizard are good, Charmeleon not so much but who gives a shit about midstages honestly.
The Bulbasaur line are all great individually but together not so much, there's very little change between each stage so it gets a bit boring.
Squirtle and Wartortle are fine but Blastoise is the worst stage of any starter in the franchise Absolutely ridiculous design and completely abandons the theme being built towards with Squirtle and Wartortle.

Kanto has a lot of water-type trainers and Hikers that spam Geodudes. Not to mention he solos the first 2 gyms. Bulbasaur gets a lot of mileage.

After all the Kanto rebirthing, I'm tired of them.
At least GSC kept its pants on as it modestly celebrated its remake.

It even subtly won as a Pokemon movemaker. You can put Curse on everyone now thanks to GSC being bank compatible.
