Excluding Mystery Dungeon, Darkrai's induced nightmares are strictly a defense mechanism, rather than something done out of spite. It keeps itself near Cresselia because it knows the latter can cure anything it accidentally starts.

I agree with this, I want this. Also I like evil teams. People say evil is unrealistic, but actually not a lot of IRL "bad people" are primarily motivated by tragic backstories. Some people are just cruel because they like it. Or their tragic back stories are just an excuse. Evil is accurate, some people just do evil shit.
