They released the DS Lite and 2DS for Gen 4 and 6. No way there won't be a mini Switch of some kind for Gen 8.

The Switch itself would still need to have the technology to communicate with joycons either way, or else the system would be entirely incompatible with the system's local multiplayer games. I don't know why people assume they'd make the joycons unremovable when it makes more sense to just release a cheaper joycon that only works when attached to the system and lacks most of the joycon features. It would chop like 40-50 dollars off the console price while still allowing the player to buy real joycons later if they want.

Problem with the switch Mini is that the hand-held capabilites of the Switch aren't the focus of the console. Since the Switch is just underclocked when away from it's base, they'd need to develop new hardware for a handheld-focused Switch and even then it would never utilize Switch games to their full console potential which would likely lead to compatibility issues.

I think we're more likely to get a switch-Pro without hand-held capabilities than a Mini switch

It would only be slightly cheaper, but it's something.
They wouldn't remove Bluetooth since it's needed for trading. But perhaps they could use the Switch's USB-C port as some sort of makeshift Link Cable.
