>>37797596I don't really agree with anything you said.
>You massively decrease the number of Pokemon in the game, meaning you constantly run into the same ones over and over in the wild and in battleThat was a problem every dex had until XY, whether it used old or new Pokémon. DPPt is probably the worst offender. BW comparatively had very little problem with that aside from the overuse of the shitty monkeys, it's one of the most well-balanced sets in the series.
>You end up with a lot of redoes which is boring. You need a new bat Pokemon a new dog etc. There's absolutely nothing wrong with redoing a concept as vague and general as a bat or a dog (dog especially because almost every generation has a new dog Pokémon). I'd rather see a new bat every single gen than see more fucking Zubat.
Explicit expies of more specific concepts like Munna to Drowzee are another matter, though, and I agree they're not a great idea, but they're not intrinsic to a large dex.
>In trying to make so many Pokemon the quality of each drops.BW had some stinkers (like the aforementioned monkeys, fuck those things) but it also had a lot of the best Pokémon ever designed. Meanwhile XY's selection is solid but generally just okay, nothing special, and SM's dex is as all over the place in terms of quality as BW's is but with less designs overall. The "quality over quantity" argument holds no water when it comes to Pokémon, there's no correlation.
