This Pokemon hype has finally made me want to try Sun and Moon. I should skip ahead and just play the Ultra edition, right?

Ultra Sun and Moon have quality of life and difficulty improvements over Sun and Moon as well as 100 more Pokemon in the Pokedex, so I'd say yes.
Sun and Moon have the better story but up until the last hour of the game they're more or less identical

Like >>37800429 said, USUM are better in every way aside from the story. They stumble trying to tack on the new elements instead of properly incorporating them into the story. But that one pro for SM doesn't outweigh everything else that USUM improves.

I thought the whole design philosophy of "literally the same story with a bit more content" became outdated in gen 4

Her character is more interesting in SM but I think she has a better arc in USUM. Having SM end with her in a coma feels like a cop-out.

Who cares? It's completely inconsequential anyway if he's not going to play SM. The outcome is totally different in USUM. I'm spoiling a story he's never going to experience anyway.

I loved SM in my first playthrough. I purposefully stayed away from any potential spoilers (besides starters and box legends) and it was an amazing experience discovering all the new Pokémon and just going in without any idea of what to expect.
