Do people who say this not know what digimon actually look like on average, or is it just a way to dismiss any design that isn't overly simplistic? Digimon is not just Agumon, it's a franchise built on adding infinite levels of pointless little details with no practical use to designs purely on the grounds of it looking cool to the designer. A concept known in Kamen Rider suit design as "kibble".

In terms of design philosophy, pokemon has always been a rather tame franchise. Even the busiest designs have never reached the levels of "yeah that's nice, but wouldn't it be even better if we added some cybernetics and big old titties to it?" that Digimon flaunts as a trademark. Even if a person's only experience to Digimon was watching the original Adventure series, that was a series that gave us Angewomon, Mechagarurumon, and many other designs that would never show up in pokemon.
