>>37808570 wow did we really wait that long from the announcement of gen 7 to seeing the first images of the starters? We're getting spoiled this year for sure
Anonymous
>>37808589 I'm pretty sure that one of the directors said they regretted the way they revealed stuff.
Anonymous
>>37808599 I imagine we're gonna get less pokemon each reveal, but they'll be more spread out over the extra 5 months.
We'll probably get Legendaries in the next couple months.

Why release information four days before release but wait three months between the announcement and starter reveal?

I can't wait until the shoddy leaks start coming through

>>37808668 The Announcement for Sun & Moon was kind a nothing. It was that trailer where they just showed everyone working on it at Game Freak and we saw some concept art and the back of Pikipek's head.
So it wasn't till May that they finally had enough shit to show I guess.
Whereas this time they're giving it to us way farther in advance, probably cause they've been working on it for so much longer.

Remeber when /vp/ denied Hawlucha because of the three dexes in Kalos? Or gen V starters because the pig was fire/fighting?
Anonymous
>>37808836 I hadn't started going to /v/ before Gen 7, so if anyone's got screenshots of those, I'd love to see them.

>>37808836 To be fair, it's difficult to discern the one or two true leaks from the dozens of fake ones. Like if the gen 8 starters had been posted before the direct, next to no one would've believed the leaker. It's never obvious unless it's in hindsight.

Anonymous
I hope they don't show every pokemon, it'd be cool to have some surprises
Anonymous
>>37808911 No, I don't have any of the Corocoro dates. I thought those may be even more annoying to find out.
I based the above off of just the videos on the Official Pokemon Channel.

>>37808625 This is what I'm hoping. instead of 4 months of nothing, then 4 months of getting news 3 times a month, I'm hoping they start dropping news once a month, making it slightly less back heavy.

>>37808861 Just google Greninja/Binacle/Hawlucha, for other gen VI leaks you could search for Josh and whoever that Russian guy was. they and another user leaked stuff on Instagram along with Delphox.
Also here's a bunch of x/y info that got leaked:

>>37808668 Probably a mix of being worked on longer (IF they aren't lying, they claimed the planning stages started even before deciding to put it on the Switch or something) and Masuda admitting they handled the promotional period of SM and USM horribly, and that they should have released more information earlier on.
Anonymous
>>37808836 The gen V starter incident was hilarious, and is what created the Serebii Confirmed shit.
Its also why when someone says
>This is fake! look, it looks exactly like X pokemon! You can just laugh because of people claiming Serperior was Milotic, Pignite was Lickylicky, Emboar was Rhyperior, and Samurott was Dialga.

Its also worth noting that for gens 5, 6, and 7, the final evolutions of the starters were leaked before official release, with gen 6 being closest to release due to coming from leaked copies, and 7 being the farthest from release.

>>37809534 There's was also "No es fake". Was that 5th or 6th gen?

I wonder if Gamefreak has adopted a more strict means of preventing leaks like joe Sakurai and Nintendo were basically able to keep Ultimate pretty dark. Or you know. They could be incompetent like netherealm and let a random idiot leak shit with ease

Anonymous
>>37809636 And didn't it happen again with the gen 7 starter leak? some random autistic came in and claimed they were actually the ones to make it.
Regardless, while you should always be skeptical of leaks, always be equally skeptical when someone claims they're fake and that they made them.

Its an actual business strategy to intentionally leak information to build up hype. And I would be willing to believe that's what happened with the gen 7 starters.

>>37809673 >>37809707 I can’t deny that it can be fun but context should matter. Small leaks that can’t be 100% proven like the final forms of Gen 7 and people wondering if the Grinch leak for smash was real or fake did their job of hype because it added to the speculation which can fuel hypes for long periods of time
But if somehow a real leak happened by means like an asshole breaking the rules and puts out like 90% of the stuff online or some really bad fuck up by accident and we got full info and there’s little question to it being fake and if the timing is too early, I’d call it the opposite of hype because you’ve killed the speculation, people wouldn’t think about it after the initial buzz until the game gets put out.
It just feels like there’s a right and wrong way to go about it. It’s like film editing, be able build hype up by leaks something without us being able to tell it’s happening means it’s doing a good job
Anonymous
>>37809596 Seems like It's too hard to make pokemon leak proof.
Too many turning gears and too many things that have to be put into play at the same time.
Someone's gonna want their crack at web fame. That search for web relevance is part of why serebii doesn't know shit/ isn't told shit anymore.
(he got caught pirating some gen game before release and they cut him off )

Probably did it with previous games, but they either didn't have anti-piracy, or it was obvious like HGSS where it just wouldn't boot at all.

>>37809856 People played XY illegally because stores broke the release date. That didn't kill the hype though probably because it was close to the actual release date.

One thing this list is missing--the fact that the Mallow reveal confirmed the starters leak, and that epic thread where an anon met (I think) Masuda and had him autograph some fanart of the starters when he said "You're not supposed to know about these yet"
