When I found it I was kinda thinking it was weird but ultimately I didn't really care since I don't use traded Pokémon that don't have one of my IDs. I also own every game in multiple copies and multiple systems meaning I was going to have Gengar once I was ready anyway, no matter what.
It was always going to just sit in a box labeled in-game trades with the rest of them. Made no difference what it was.
So I guess I was kind of surprised when it didn't evolve and then found the reason but can you really say you fell for something when you don't care at all? I'd say no.
