Yep, HGSS were more praised because they were remakes of games with more depth, so combined with new graphics made them a super game for the time overall.

This one is just a solid remake that I played a million times.

I really like those remakes but coming from RSE they felt a little lacking? Maybe?
RSE had a lot of different environments, new Pokémon, cool gimmicks.
FRLG were literally made so you could catch em all in gen 3 so the old environments and old Pokémon made them feel a little weak.

Neo/vp/ doesn't remember they exist because all they know of Kanto is KANTOOOOOOOO and LGPE and the reason they know RSE or GSC existed is because their remakes were more recent.
The cutoff year was when DP released. If it wasn't remade afterwards newfags don't know of it.

they were my first games so I'll always personally remember them very fondly, but I guess the similarities are probably why, sevii islands were pretty fun, at least as a kid, haven't done them since I don't think, still way better than recent post games, even if I don't know they'd feel as good now.
