Let's see, 5 literally had its Pokedex fashioned after the original 151. 6 gave you a free Kanto starter + Mega Stone and constantly shoved facts about Kanto up your ass. 7's dex was full of Kanto mons, only Kanto mons got Alolan Forms, there was a Nugget Bridge replica, they shoehorned in nigger Oak, multiple references on how Alola is connected to Kanto, let Lillie/Gladion leave to Kanto and even had Red and Blue show up. And that's only SM/USUM, Let's Go is also Gen 7 and came directly after that.

I never said Lucario didn't count, but I explained why it was in the role the game assigned to it. What function do the Kanto starters and Mewtwo serve? Was there any reason for them being there? The only one I could imagine is getting to experience them in 3D since that was a novelty.

The difference here is that Kanto had nothing to emulate, being the first game in the series. Hoenn had to reboot the franchise after Johto, and Unova tried to be a second reboot.

Gen 3 barely counts since it's a remake of Kanto.

Again, not what I said. I said that Lucario's role is justified, not that it as the choice is. They could've used Medicham or Ampharos for all I care. Fact is, Lucario has a role in the game in introducing the new mechanic. Mewtwo and the kanto starters have no reason to be there.

Nigga, I'm literally a 30 year old Boomer. I played every gen in their own release times. Gamewise I'm not a genwunner, my favorites are HGSS and Platinum. But you have to be delusional to not acknowledge that to the general public the OG 151 are much more popular and marketable. You're pretty fucking wrong, my dude. Generation 4, which launched with the Nintendo DS was literally a renassiance for the brand. Generation 3 and the significantly less popular Gameboy Advance was the era where things had significantly thinned out with the brand. Pokemon was on such a downward trend that Nintendo had to start resecuring secondary media; first the TCG, and then the anime dub. During all it's run, DPT had a secured home on Cartoon Network; which can't be said the same of Advanced Generation, who bounced from one network to another. Let alone the fact that Advanced Generation had a dubcast change in the middle of it's run.
