>>37821918There is nothing to confirm this--just a Pokedex entry that might be based on rumor or speculation. People can't communicate with Pokemon so how do they know that a Pokemon used to be human?
They don't. It's all just speculation and folkloreAlso, we know that Ghost types aren't dead because of several reasons:
1. Ghost types have genders, breed, and lay eggs just as any other Pokemon--they're even compatible with Ditto. Ditto wouldn't be able to die and then resurrect itself to breed with a Yamask. Therefore, Yamask must be living creatures with reproductive systems that Ditto can replicate.
2. Some Pokemon evolve into Ghost types. Evolution isn't known to kill pokemon. Even Mega Evolution keeps the Pokemon alive despite the immense amount of power that is uses. So, a Snorunt doesn't evolve into Froslass by dying. The Dawn stone likely radiates an energy that causes Snorunt to gain ghost-like powers and evolve into Froslass. Similarly, in its evolution, Dartrix likely just gains the ability to use Ghost-like powers upon evolving. Alolan Marowak is another example of this. It's got the ability to use ghost-powers--likely through practicing its spiritual dances, but it's not dead like the mother Marowak from Gen 1.
3. We know that actual spirits exist in the Pokemon world. This is due to the appearance of the actual ghost Marowak. Now, it may be possible that ghost-types can see, interact with and even feed off of real spirits (like Spiritomb), but there's no solid evidence to suggest that Ghost-types are actually dead.
