I'm 30, and seeing other franchises growing up and Pokemon staying the same always upsets me, they main line of this franchise finally went to a big console and the new games still look like it were made several years before the Switch, I stopped at Ultra Sun because I know they can do better but there's something holding them back, maybe the reason why I don't like Gen 5 it's because they dropped the following pokemon after it was successfully added in HGSS, I'm seriously thinking about retire but on the other hand I really love the franchise for the nostalgia factor, following pokemon and pokemon overworld it's what makes pokemon world looking different from other worlds and must be obligatory in every game.

I've played since RBY and I vastly prefer OW encounters. Random encounters don't add excitement you autist. There's already a feeling of "not knowing what you'll come across" before you enter the route.

Masuda literally admitted they don't want to make a big scale mainline game on console with a large map, OW encounters...etc because then people would expect every game that come after to be as good and it would be a huge amount of work every time.

Thank you for framing your opinion in a mature way. I understand a lot of what you mean I’ve enjoyed all the changes over the years as well. Though I wound up loving gen 5 for it being the first to completely have new pkmn but I agree the following is something I’ve wanted back every single gen. HGSS did amazing things like that and the pokewalker I was more attached to that team than I’ve ever been since. It’s hard because I love the Pokémon following but the overworld I’m not sold on quite yet. If it does happen then I’m willing to see how it feels but in a sense I feel like it makes things too easy in a series that seems to get easier and easier. While it would be nice to go to a route and find the exact rare one I’m looking for quickly it just doesn’t seem as fun unless they change battles too. It made sense for go because you just find and catch where when you have to weaken it first it feels like they’d have to make it more like an action rpg which would basically just be an entire new game. I’m cool with it but having it change the core games seems like too much for now. I think it would be a fun game to switch between them and make it more action based but not the same vibe

LGPE looked like trash and its lazy handling of OW encounters is the reason why so many brainlets are now against the very concept of it.

Your pic is the exception, but most of the time LGPE looks like the top image in OP pic.

Random encounters are great in games focused on resource management and exploration. They encourage you to ration and min max so you'll have enough resources to fight whatever boss lies at the end of a dungeon

Pokemon doesn't do this. The random encounters honestly don't serve any practical purpose. In fact I'd say they do nothing but take away from the core of what pokemon is, which is the world and the pokemon inhabiting it. Since random encounters are so arbitrary and easily mitigated in pokemon games, I feel like you should just have them out in the open world instead where you can preemptively avoid encounters instead of popping repels or sitting through a battle transition loading screen before fleeing

Now LGPE didn't have the best implementation of overworld encounters, but improving upon it would do a lot more for pokemon than just reverting it to random encounters. The pokemon should, ideally, interact with the world in a natural way and the methods you use to catch them should reflect it. Imagine having to use a bug net to catch butterfrees that congregate around a flower patch, and catching them would transition you into a standard battle. Or sneaking up on Stantler that would otherwise flee like skittish deer if you just run up to them. Or rattata darting from bushes and forcing you into unsuspecting encounters etc.

Basically I don't think pokemon has ever used random encounters in a way that really takes advantage of the system, and feel that overworld encounters fit much better with what pokemon is trying to be

The issue with this is they'd have to greatly increase the size of the world to accommodate this, and GF are lazy. It could be extremely engaging if you had to figure out what locations a pokemon would live in and could actually watch them. But they simply aren't going to put that effort in, making sure distribution was still good would be a huge task in itself.
