Pokémon XY are the first 3D games have rich cultural story in artistic styles-animations that have evolved the concepts, characters, gameplay ways, pokémon and many things that can be beneficial for all games. Just as these were with RBGY, its FRLG remakes to the other 2D games.
It is not over the 3D era going to continue in the games, very remembered XY

XY was a game I pegged to be dated the moment it debuted. It's big contribution to the series was bringing the mainlines to 3d. Now that it's served its purpose, it's only going to get worse over time. Especially if Gen 8's regional dex is bigger.

In a way, it was a glorified tech demo.

okay, the oNLY apologist defense is that this was debuted in June, whereas SnS has been debuted in February. It's possible they could do a tiny bit of polishing between now and June/whenever it goes gold.

Anon XY changed quite a bit from it's original January announcement to the January trailer. Textures are better in the June trailer, and the NPC and other minor details were added to Luminous despite being absent from the January trailer. Luminous also got a different, better floor and there were some other texture fixes. LGPE had minor graphical fixes too, and SM saw more NPCs placed in towns from the original trailer as well as some texture fixes. XY's infamous early release screenshot also shows a different take on an early game route, and a different camera angle.

XY was the first full-fledged 3D Pokemon game, so even though it ended up like horseshit, pre-release was the most hyped up of any Pokemon game.

S&S are just better polished 3D games on a console (not really a big deal these days). Everything looks better, but there's no "wow factor" that drew me in like XY.
