Graphic design is hard man. They're a small studio, they had to focus all their resources just to get gen 8 finished. They don't make much money.

I do graphic design quite a bit. It's little generic because they want to play it safe, but not terrible and quite fitting for a franchise aimed at young boys.

What type of logo would you want it to have?

Design is really generic and composition looks off
And my biggest gripe is the yellow logo. Pocket Monster in Japan has always have unique logo design each generation with colors matching version, and now they're using this one ugly yellow from the worldwide logo.

Soodo is kinda wrong though, to someone who can't read moonrunes that makes it sound like "sudo". It's really more like Soh-dh, where you kinda drag out the oh a little and chop off the o at the end of it.

you mean the logo that has continuously changed from generation to generation in japan without harming the brand?
at the very least, they could recolor the international logo to match the theme like they always did with the japanese logos. but instead, even the japanese logos have that gaudy blue and yellow that clashes with everything now.

You're implying the Jap logo is just the stylized Japanese title, but ignoring it also always having "pocket monsters" or "pokemon" written on it in the most boring and easy to read font imaginable, as well as from gen III always tacking on a pokeball in the logo to really make sure you notice that this is a pokemon game.

just happens that these sword and shield logos are ruined bu those ugly stylized swords and shields and the respective cartoon dogs

plus compared to the previous logos the new ones aren't horizontal but are rather square looking, i think they'd look much better if the sword and shield images were placed on the 1/3 of the pokemon text logo

as you can see there's nothing outdated in the logo, it's the sword and shield images that are out of place, they should be either on the left or the right of the text

the yellow pokemon ugly font and bland text in white was more of annoying, some of the new still look like old power point title fonts kids love to use, despite looking ugly the yellow font is now an evergreen and easily associated with pokemon

The original person in this reply chain asked how the nips would pronounce it. The next guy wrote the answer romanized, but someone who doesn't know how moonrunes work wouldn't have realized the "oo" isn't pronounced like in "pool", but more like "show". So his "soodo" is kind of misleading, I was just clarifying.

No, the dragged out sound is literally just holding the "o" longer. Typed out, soodo is technically correct, but it's pronounced like sohdo. It doesn't change it into an oo/u sound like English does. If it were oo/u it would be written "sudo" or スド, which is not how ソード is pronounced.

Most of the romanization systems are funky like that, I'm just making sure people don't read it as "oo" when it's a dragged out "oh". Some systems would write it as Sōdo, some Soudo, and some Soodo. I don't like the last one because in english two "oo"s is not pronounced the same as it is in Japanese.
