Pokemon always sells better than Zelda. Hell statistically speaking LGPE sold better than BOTW. BOTW's Switch version reached 10 million in two years, LGPE reached it in two fucking months.

Third versions, and remakes have been out performed by Zelda before but not by much but fresh entries in the series crush Zelda. MM3DS only sold around 2 million copies. BOTW is the highest selling Zelda game at around 13 million copies between the Switch and the Wii U.

This, Zelda is more popular in the west than east. It is the best selling Zelda title in Japan, but it has only sold around 1.3m copies (LGEP sold 1.85m in 2 months, roughly for comparison, compared to Zelda's 18 months). Pokémon's going to absolutely crush it and likely everything else on they system to date when it launches.

Pokemon always sells more than Zelda. Pokemon is the biggest media franchise in the world. Bigger than Harry Potter, Star Wars etc.

I'm pro-open world, but Pokemon's popularity is not affected by world design. The appeal of Pokemon is catching the mons (and to a lesser extent battling). PGO and Let's Go proved that.

I think one thing a lot of people miss is Pokemon has a formula that is proven to work, is proven to sell crazy well and to just mess with that is really risky. This is why they announced the 2019 game alongside LGPE because they knew the fact that it was different would cause strife with fans.
