Playing it in a dark room may be the problem for you. Memes aside, Lavender Town is far from the creepiest thing I’ve seen in a kids game (Mario 64 from around the same time had similarly creepy whiplash moments), but I understand why it juts out from the rest of Kanto and makes players feel uneasy.
