Maybe it's for the same reason that all the male characters of any jrpg are generic, it helps the player's immersion but more important is the player's autoincerption, since the number of female players has increased in the last few years in pokemon it has been decided opt for more generic and much less sexualized designs, just vast compare Chicken chan with Serena or Hilda, or someone else noticed that they no longer use extravagant hair colors for the protagonists as the case of Kris from Pokemon Crystal or the girl of Pokemon Ranger ?
The most obvious case is that the anime have gone long in using the design of some girls to opt for more cliche anime designs as for example, not to use Selena and replace she with Lillie, Mallow, and Lana.
