Fuck no. They were pretty bad comparatively, but definitely not the worst. That honor goes to Diamond and Pearl. Thankfully Platinum fixed most of the problems those two had.

I had fun playing Y. I don't think I've played an actual bad pokemon game that I didn't like.

I had fun with XY. Pretty much what I expected from the first 3d games. The only pokemon game I felt bored during the first play through was FRLG. I'm a zoomer that started with gen 4 though.

Gen 3 didnt have flawed mechanics though outside of day/night cycles which aren't that important anyways

AS and hoenn are pretty shit but Dex nav and overall functionality of the lower screen is the best in the series.
Playing USM now makes me want to scream because rotom is both useless and annoying .

I recently replayed Gens III, V, VI and VII and Gen VII was surprisingly the only one i couldn't bear to finish again, so Gen VII is definitely the worst. Z-Moves will definitely always remain the most pointless "flagship" addition in any main series Pokemon game. Also, PSS was fucking incredible and i don't know how Alola managed to fuck up the entire bottom screen functionality and Online modes so hard. What a shit game.
