They're so braindead, they truly cannot begin to fathom what elements would constitute a "good" Pokemon game, so now we've just created an effigy of overworld encounters and following Pokemon (two features that are entirely superfluous and superficial and do nothing to improve or even change gameplay), and are using those as scapegoats as to why SS isn't "good", despite the fact that we've seen next to nothing important.
I hope SS are amazing, but I hope they end up not including overworld encounters or following Pokemon just so the majority of faggots here can stay buttmad and screeching over Gen 8 for the rest of their lives.
