>>37854250That's not fair though. It's not like Morimoto did Emerald and HGSS from scratch. They both had their own basis in prior games (RS and GSC). Same with Unno (B2W2 built off BW) and Kawachimaru (Platinum built off DP).
Tajiri was director for Gen I. He was clearly having some issues with Gold and Silver until Masuda stepped onto development (he was sub director) and together they worked towards the retail Gold and Silver. Masuda was director for Crystal, but once again, it's built on a prior game, though Crystal is probably more Masuda than Tajiri.
Ruby and Sapphire probably could have used another year, but Masuda was concerned about the series dying and didn't want to delay them. BW was a drop after Gen IV, but it's not like it was bad. X and Y showed potential, but they needed another year as well.
Overall, Masuda is probably one of the stronger directors, but his changing views and desiring to get games out ASAP were his undoing.
Satoshi Tajiri is still unproven, and I think he was also thinking that he wasn't cut out for the director role after GS which is why he handed it off to Masuda who he probably saw as the project's guiding light. Was he a one-trick pony? We just don't know, and we probably never will since bringing him back when Pokémon is this big is probably too much for him.
Morimoto, Unno, and Kawachimaru all had great success, but would that success still be there if they were to direct the start of a new Generation? And B2W2 probably had more human resources available since no remakes were past pre-production at the time.
All I do know is I don't like any of Ohmori's output or anything derived from it.
