It's Gym related, whatever it means, so I wouldn't be shocked if all the Gyms are rotation battles because of the soccer theme.

It's just the new gym/league symbol, like this before it. The Japanese logos don't prove that it's a new gimmick at all.

I seriously doubt it will affect competitive. They might use it for the Galar-only Dex VGC but after that it'll be back to doubles.
