>>37867706>forced the 3D thingExcept... it wasn't a forced thing? There was a definite transition. 5th gen had very 3D-modeled backgrounds and fully-animated (though looping) Pokemon sprites, as a lead-up to it.
>forcing the switch...The switch is a new console, and is the next handheld after the 3DS. GF aren't forcing it any more than 4th gen forced the original DS.
The thing is that you're kinda right but for the exact opposite reasons. 6th and 7th gen require a lot LESS investment to play, you can literally turn off your mind and pay no attention to your Pokemon and then hey, after about an hour you've won with no hassle.
...And half of that hour was spent watching cutscenes.
It's a markedly different, and worse, experience than, say, 3rd gen, where even FireRed and LeafGreen (the first Pokemon games with even a hint of casualization) shut up and let you play after Veridian City. People don't feel invested in the world, they don't feel like their decisions have weight, they just get lead around the world by the hand as the game dumps its story on the player.
6th and 7th gen would be the worst gens full stop if it weren't for stellar Pokemon design.
>also fuck megas and z movesMegas and Z-moves aren't, and were never, the problem. The problem is cutscene overload and casualization.
