The shading is in the right place kinda. I'd place it at Gen 2. The art style itself is still Gen 8 though.

It's a pretty good image but the player has too many colors for the sprite. Gen 1 sprites could only have 4 individual colors.

Grookey is all around much closer to an earlier generation design than the other two are. Its proportions are much less exaggerated and it has more detailing (like how it has actual individual fingers instead of blob hands with lines).

no, it isn't.

these fan made sprites try way too hard to be ugly. Most of the gen 1 sprites are sprited decently well but just have early designs.

That's exactly why I am part of the Grookey gang. Grookey has that Gen 3-4 design motif that I like so much. The other 2 definitely have more modern art styles.

Design-wise. I'll be honest, though, I'm not sure there's much that can be done with Registeel. At least, off the top of my head, there's not much I can think of. By concept it's supposed to look artificial, a la the gen 1 magnets.

While gen 3 was the start of a design shift, it's much closer than later gens. You're giving me pretty simple designs to start with -- Spheal in particular doesn't look out of place with gen 1/2 designs. Its circular body shape was seen in Pokemon like Jigglypuff, it's eyes are reminiscent of those on Seel and Lickitung.

Explanation: I really only removed the outline for something to change, as markings didn't always have outlines (Venusaur's flower, Victreebel's spots), but they just as often did, so it was a wash.

Most of the ones upthread seem to be by Artsy Theo. They've also got quite a lot of other later gen lines drawn in watercolor style, though not all of them are quite as on point as that Fennekin one
