Palpark was pretty shitty initially since it had the 6 pokemon per 24 hour limit, that changed with Platinum + HGSS though. Just being able to bring pokemon to other games without requiring another system was really cool at the time.

Same. I eventually got it fixed before Platinum released, but I remember buying one of those shitty Nintendo wifi dongles that only worked when it wanted to.

Most online features were whatever honestly. The offline portions of the DS games are plenty, especially in Gen 4. The one thing I miss as a feature in general is GTS Negotiations in Gen 5, which honestly produced the most fair and enjoyable trades for me, including one of my main team members in my first Black playthrough.
