I hate that baby pokemon aren’t found in the wild. I know the whole point was to introduce breeding, but I like some of their designs and it would be nice to have them in early routes so I could use them for more than just grinding up to the rest of my team

Do you even play the games? Almost all the Baby Pokemon are found before the 2nd gym in some games. I'd say the hardest one to find in the wild is Tyrogue but really that's it.

Unpopular opinion, but it would be nice to have access to most of the pokéballs early.
Either that, or the option to change them once the pokémon it's already captured.
Not for the easy factor, but for the aesthetic factor.
Some pokéballs simply match better with certain pokémon.

Simply having the vanilla, great and ultra would be decently good...

Bagon was obtainable pretty early in both XY and SM. You could also get Deino was also pretty early in SM with Island Scan. Plenty of the others are available about mid game in them as well.

I hate how Gamefreak has been trying to incorporate every type of biome into a region and restricting certain types into their respective biome. Rock types are rarely found outside of caves, fire types rarely outside of a volcano, ghosts are rarely found outside of the haunted area, etc.

It makes every region feel about as cut & dry as NSMB.

Late-game Pokemon, like Volcarona and Noivern, who evolve at a high level but are complete shit until their last stage, meaning that even if you manage to get them early you effectively can't use them.

When baby mon are in the wild, but then the evolved form is catchable in the wild three routes later, meaning all the work you put into your Cleffa/Pichu/whatever is effectively for nothing.

The fact that GF keeps making balancing adjustments to decent types like Ghost and Dark but Ice gets left in the toilet.

When you catch a Pokemon early-mid game but can't access the stone/method to evolve them until late or even post game.

The fact that trainer customisation is so limited early game, meaning you have to look like shit for half the game.

Unskippable tutorials that go extremely slowly so the 6yos who can already play the game anyway don't miss them (not unusual, but the speed bothers me more than the tutorial itself).

Game text speed not being automatically set to fast.

Rotomdex concealing the map whenever it wanted to annoy me about something pointless.

Permanent stat increasing items (Protein etc) being obscenely expensive when in the last few gens you've been able to roid out your Pokemon's EVs not just for free, but while being rewarded with items.

Hyper Beam TM costing shitloads of money when it's a garbage move.

The (necessary) total incompetence of villains/teams, which could be written around but isn't.

ORAS being a lazy cash grab with minimal animation work and a broken free legendary (not so unusual I guess).

The fact that you can choose your player character's ethnicity, appearance, and sex, but not their age (again, this is for narrative reasons, but could be written around).

Evolutions through trading are a fucking retarded mechanic that are actively antithetical to the JRPG experience. Why would I want to catch a pokemon, name him, and go though the trouble of teaching him the moves I want just to trade him away to some loser in exchange for a pokemon I have no control over, and whose name I can't even change.
You might say "But you just trade it then trade it back", to which I would say, that's a work around and not the intended use for the trading feature. From a design standpoint, the intent is very clearly "Trade with some other guy so he can get the evolved form of what you want, and you'll get some other pokemon" which is retarded and sucks. In all the time that they've been making this series, they've never once stopped to reevaluate this feature and perhaps try to improve it and it's fucking infuriating

Evolution trading was designed with Japs in mind, since in Japan if there's a new Pokemon game out there are probably 400 people within 50 feet of you who are playing it at any given time. Doesn't work so well in the West where we don't live like sardines and almost exclusively trade with online strangers.

I understand why, but surely you could just let them learn the move in their evolved form from the relearner? That way it costs a scale atleast.

It is just a joke to have a Level 40 Staryu or Level 54 Eelektrik for the sake of one move. It isnt good game design, its just an inconvenience.

Maybe not an unusual gripe, but gamefreaks refusal to ever change anything about their games. I'm not talking about core mechanics, I'm talking about putting a moss and ice rock in every game intead of just retconning them to leaf/ice stone evos, or always needing a magnetic area, or needing an NPC who'll swap your shitty genie to it's shitty alternate form, or having a dawn, shiny, dusk stones, magmarizers, electirizers, repear cloth, razor fangs, protectors. Constant wastes of space bloating the games item count just because they won't change it to a normal level evo or something. For god's sake make it easier on us and yourselves and drop all the shitty 1 off evo requirements. Drop the fucking IVs, retool EVs so they aren't randomly distributed, do fucking anything to stop carrying over the shitload of outdated bullshit you stubbornly cram into each sequel over and over I'n fucking tired of it.

Technically there is. From a 'world' standpoint, those trainers are still basically newbie trainers and likewise. From a 'game mechanics' standpoint, they're that strong in order to give you a reason to need your higher leveled Pokemon.

Hence why trainers such as pre-schoolers have seemingly high leveled Pokemon at times while they're still unevolved. The pre-schoolers aren't capable trainers 'in-universe'.

Basically, 'in universe', you're beating up a little kid's Pokemon that isn't super strong and they just happen to have with them. Not to mention that despite being high leveled, Pokemon Breeders have lower stage Pokemon because those Pokemon are just babies being trained.

You're beating up all the babies in your quest to decimate all trainers.

Pokemon isn't your typical JRPG nor is it meant to be. The entire fucking point is to collect Pokemon and interact with others to complete your collection. It's meant to be a social game and trading is a social feature. Trade evolution are fine because they build on what Pokemon is meant to be.

You get non-specific EVs from beating pokemon and can have the pokemon hit whatever bag to put those EVs into that stat either quickly or passively in the backround. Just look at Lucario and Rayquaza. Lucario was the first Pokemon to Mega Evolve in XY, but then in ORAS you learn that Rayquaza really did it first and that he did it in Hoenn and that his was even more super special and Zinnia is this incredible expert that knows everything and it's more common then it is a few years later when Kalos is trying to figure out how it all works. It's kind of a total fucking mess.

Just give an ingame smogon like pokemon editor for online play. You need to capture the pokemon first but after that you can just edit any of his EV,IV and nature. Would remove a lot of beating around the bush mechanism.

Like clockwork the ice types show up like 6 gyms in and never sooner. Even the Galar map makes it look like that entire snow mountain might be later game.

My idea was for battles to give you generic EV points that you can later go into the menu and allocate into any stat you want, without the requirement of having to defeat a certain mon for certain points on a certain stat.

This works if you have a friend who you can plan this sort of stuff with. But I've never seen it happen to anyone else but me and my friend.

HMs shouldn't be overwritten in gen 1 because the inventory system sucks and you may want to deposit HMs to save inventory space. If they could be overwritten then you could theoretically learn over your HM without the HM in your inventory to teach it back, making yourself stuck.

But ever since they added a dedicated TM/HM slot in the bag the justification just isn't there anymore since you'd never realistically be in a situation where you don't just have the HM to learn it back imediately (you can still technically deposit TMs and HMs in those games but it's pointless)

They don't actually understand why that limitation was implemented in the first place, they don't understand why the reason simply doesn't exist anymore, but they won't stop because that's just how it's always been with them. It's like the monkey's stepladder experiment.

Look, just because it's not literally right before the E4 doesn't mean it's not an advanced part of the game. Platinum had a fuckload of story and cutscenes and shit happening right after that, a good chunk of that time is going to be that. Also, Distortion World, and then we have maybe 4 routes + victory road for areas where you can catch new pokemon. You've been everywhere else by that point. Candice's ace is 42, and the first E4 member's first pokemon is 49. It's fucking late game.

It pisses me off that they don't just retcon the evolution levels of those shits from gen 5 that evolve in their 50s for some reason. Why give people Rufflet and Vullaby on the first island in Sun/Moon if they're gonna be stuck in those forms until around the time you finish the last of the island challenges? And Gamefreak has retconned an evolution method in the past with Feebas, so why not change unreasonable evolution levels too? Shit sucks, I'll probably never raise cool Pokemon like Mienshao or Bisharp because of this stupid short-sighted decision that we're still paying for 8 years later.
